A lot of Ghanaians think the introduction of the e-levy has made the NPP government unpopular, but the NPP have some achieved some things which can be noted as being able to them on track to winning the 2024 general elections. Some of these include.

  1. By making the National ID number the TIN number, NPP have increased the number of people with TIN numbers from 750,000 in 2016 to 15.5 million

  2. By making the National ID number the SSNIT number, NPP have increased the number of people with SSNIT numbers from 3 million to 15.5 million

  3. The digitization of the births and deaths registry is 80% complete

  4. Abolished excise duty on petroleum

  5. Reduced special petroleum tax rate from 17.5% to 15%.

  6. Abolished the 1% Special Import Levy

  7. Abolished the 17.5% VAT/NHIL on domestic airline tickets

  8. Abolished the 17.5% VAT/NHIL on financial services

  9. Abolished the 17.5% VAT/NHIL on selected imported medicines, that are not produced locally

  10. Abolished the 5% VAT/NHIL on Real Estate sales

  11. Abolished import duty on the importation of spare parts.

The Akufo-Addo government has abolished import duty taxes on spare parts as it promised during the campaign for election 2016.

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta, announced the removal of this among others the government considers “nuisance taxes” to promote growth in the private sector.

  1. Reduced National Electrification Scheme Levy from 5% to 3%

  2. Reduced Public Lighting Levy from 5% to 2%

  3. NPP have developed a one-stop-shop for government services (Ghana. Gov). The process of on-boarding all government institutions is ongoing.
