The wife of the late president, John Evans Atta-Mills seems not to have forgiven the leadership of the main opposition National Democratic Congress for the death of her husband while in government.
Madam Ernestina Naadu Mills since the death of her husband in 2012 has failed to appear on any platform associated with the main opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC).
She has tactfully over the years refused to be a part of the NDC and let alone to grace any occasion attended by the leadership of the NDC, not even the memorial services held in honour of her late husband at the Asomdwe Park near the Christianborg Castle in Osu, the former seat of government.
It came as a major surprise to many political watchers when the former First Lady was spotted at the acclamation ceremony to acclamate the wife of the founder of the NDC, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawling as the National Democratic Party’s(NDP’s) flagbearer for the December 7, polls.
The NDP is a party founded by the wife of the former president Jerry John Rawlings, after serving as a National Vice Chairperson of the NDC and contested the flagbearership slot and lost to the late president John Evans Atta-Mills in a fiercely contested primary held at Sunyani in the then Brong Ahafo Region.
Mrs Naadu Mills was on Saturday September 5, captured on the camera lenses of reporters who stormed the congress grounds of the NDP to cover the activities of the party to endorse Mrs. Nana Konandu Agyemang Rawlings as the party’s flagbearer for the December 7, polls beaming with smiles all over.
Mrs Naadu Mills beamed with smiles at the congress grounds in spite of the challenges, she has had with Mrs. Konadu Agyemang Rawlings when she was the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana during the reign of her husband as the president and the late John Evans Atta-Mills was the Vice-President in the early 1990’s.
